Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 1 T. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 5 1/2 c. flour

Buttercream Frosting

  • 3 sticks butter (1 1/2 c.)
  • 1 1/2 lbs. powdered sugar
  • 1 T. vanilla
  • 2 T. heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt if using unsalted butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cream 1 c. butter and the granulated sugar together.
  3. Add and mix in eggs, sour cream, and vanilla.
  4. Add the 1/4 tsp. salt, the baking soda, and the baking powder.
  5. Add flour and mix.
  6. Roll out on floured surface, until still somewhat thick, and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  7. Put on ungreased cooking sheet and bake for about 9 min. -- don't overbake!
  8. Making the buttercream frosting: With a mixer, beat the 3 sticks of butter on med-high speed for 6 min.
  9. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the powdered sugar.
  10. Mix until the sugar and butter are combined together uniformly.
  11. Add vanilla, salt (if using), and cream or milk.
  12. Mix on low speed until everything is combined together.
  13. Then mix on med-high speed for 6 min.
